A New Chapter for Ottawa's Flag Football Program
Jackson Mallory has been appointed assistant coach for the university’s women’s flag football team, bringing a blend of playing pedigree and coaching experience to the staff.
Mallory’s connection to the school runs deep; he starred on the men’s basketball team for five seasons, amassing 577 points, 527 rebounds, 456 assists and 167 steals before graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Studies in 2022.
After completing a Master of Arts in Education in 2024, he served as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball program from May 2022 to May 2024, and also headed the Braves’ junior varsity squad while teaching physical education at Southwest Middle School in Lawrence.
His coaching résumé also includes a stint with the Livin’ The Dream Basketball Organization, where he worked with youth athletes from March 2023 through August 2025, and a period as a licensed substitute teacher in the Lawrence school district.
Head coach Abby Brown praised Mallory’s energy and enthusiasm, saying his passion for flag football will help sustain the program’s tradition of excellence.
Mallory expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting his desire to contribute to the university’s athletic legacy and to grow the flag football culture on campus.
