Jackson State University’s football program is entering the 2026 season with momentum built on a 2025 campaign that saw the Tigers capture the East Division title and finish as runners‑up for the SWAC championship.
Coach T.C. Taylor’s squad ranked second in the league for both total offense and defense, while also leading the conference in rushing on each side of the ball, a foundation that positions the team as a top contender heading into the new year.
The roster blends proven veterans with impactful transfers, including All‑SWAC selections such as Swipe Marshall, Jalen Foster and Nate Rembert, as well as newcomers Javar Bowden and Jaden Lockhart who add depth at key positions.
A fortified defensive backfield
Defensive backs are projected to be the strongest unit, featuring returning safeties Swipe Marshall, Jalen Foster and Kam Sallis alongside cornerbacks Khamauri Rogers and KJ Chisholm, the latter bolstered by transfer Samson Isreal, who contributed 17 tackles and an interception last season.
At wide receiver, the Tigers boast the fastest and deepest corps since Taylor’s arrival, anchored by two‑time All‑SWAC standout Nate Rembert, who logged a 1,000‑yard season in 2024, and Joanes Fortilien, the team’s leading receiver and touchdown maker in the same year.
Sophomore Jabari Jones and fresh arrivals Keynan Higgins, DeJay Welch, as well as the returning starter Quaveon Davis on the offensive line, are expected to emerge as breakout performers, while transfers Chad Windham Jr. and Melvin Collins Jr. compete for starting roles.
The season opens with a high‑profile matchup against Tennessee State at Vanderbilt’s FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, a game that will be streamed on ESPN+ and set the tone for the Tigers’ title aspirations.
