Jackson State’s football program kicked off its 2026 preseason workouts on July 29, marking the first day of on‑field work under head coach T.C. Taylor as the Tigers gear up for a schedule that could restore the program to the pinnacle of HBCU football.
A Fresh Start in Jackson
The excitement is palpable in Jackson, where the team is already mapping out a season opener against Tennessee State slated for August 29, a matchup that will set the tone for a campaign that includes a shot at the Celebration Bowl and a second straight national title.
After capturing the SWAC East Division for the second consecutive year, the Tigers fell just short of the conference championship, dropping a 23‑21 decision to Prairie View A&M that left fans yearning for redemption.
This offseason, Jackson State has undertaken a massive roster overhaul, adding close to 50 newcomers that blend high school prospects with junior college transfers, a move designed to deepen depth and inject fresh talent.
Among the returning starters are wide receivers Nate Rembert and Kobe Paul, tight end Jency Riley Jr., offensive lineman Quaveon Davis, cornerbacks KJ Chisholm Jr. and Khamauri Rogers, and safety Kam Sallis, all of whom are expected to anchor the offense and defense.
Coach T.C. Taylor, now in his fourth season at the helm, has emphasized continuity and development, praising the work ethic of his squad while stressing the importance of executing the game plan week after week.
Looking Ahead to a Defining Season
With the new players integrated and the coaching staff confident, the Tigers are poised to translate early momentum into a sustained push for the Celebration Bowl, a goal that has eluded them just one win shy last season.
