Jackson State Leads SWAC Preseason Honors with Six All-Conference Selections

Defensive standout Kam Sallis earns Defensive Player of the Year as the Tigers aim for a deep postseason run

The SWAC has released its preseason honors, and Jackson State is front and center. Defensive standout Kam Sallis was crowned Defensive Player of the Year, capping a breakout campaign that saw him record 53 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Sallis, a returning safety, will anchor a defense that already generated a slew of accolades. Joining him on the All-SWAC first team are Quaveon Davis and Nate Rembert, each bringing distinct strengths to the Tigers’ lineup.

Davis, who started every game at right tackle, earned second-team All-SWAC recognition, while Rembert paced the receiving corps with 750 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

The second-team selections include Jared Lockhart, Carmello Jones and KJ Chisholm. Lockhart is slated to inherit the starting quarterback role, having thrown for 1,187 yards and eight touchdowns a year ago, while Jones contributed 36 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss, and Chisholm logged 34 tackles and five pass breakups at cornerback.

A Program Poised for Depth

The six preseason All-SWAC honorees tie Jackson State for the second-most selections in the conference, underscoring the depth of talent cultivated by the coaching staff.

Analysts note that the blend of experienced returnees and emerging starters positions the Tigers to compete strongly when the regular season begins.

Season Outlook

Fans can expect a defense that pressures quarterbacks, a receiving corps that stretches the field, and a quarterback ready to build on last year’s production. If the early indicators hold, Jackson State could be a major factor in the SWAC race.
