Fan Fest Highlights
The annual Bleed Thee Blue Fall Fan Fest transformed the Jackson State campus into a vibrant marketplace of school pride, where hundreds of students, alumni and local residents converged under banners of navy and gold. The air buzzed with chants and the rhythmic beat of marching band drums as the football team’s newest veterans took center stage.
Reid Pulliam, the tackling machine who led the squad with 74 stops and earned All‑SWAC first‑team honors, stood beside B.J. Washington, whose 50 tackles and six pass breakups placed him among the top defenders, and Kazarius Bowie, a reliable backup who logged 13 tackles and three quarterback hurries in 11 appearances. Each player paused to sign jerseys, exchange handshakes and pose for photos, embodying the gratitude they feel toward a community that has cheered them through grueling practices.
Eligibility Uncertainty
The festivities unfolded against a backdrop of legal intrigue, as the NCAA has appealed a U.S. District Court decision that granted high‑school athletes from the Class of 2022 a fifth year of eligibility beginning July 31. While the court’s ruling promises an extra season of competition, Jackson State has yet to confirm the status of Pulliam, Washington or Bowie for the upcoming term, leaving fans and administrators in a state of hopeful anticipation.
Looking Ahead to the Season
The Tigers’ opening battle is scheduled for Aug. 29, when they travel to Nashville to face Tennessee State at Vanderbilt’s FirstBank Stadium. The matchup will mark the first test of a roster that blends seasoned veterans with emerging talent, and it will be followed by a slate of contests that promise to showcase the team’s ambition to dominate opponents from the first whistle to the final roar.
Coaching Perspective and Community Support
Assistant head coach Eric Gallon took the opportunity to underscore the players’ work ethic, stating that the squad’s goal is to “dominate opponents every week” and to honor the dedication that has defined their preparation. The fan fest also featured participation from volleyball, soccer and cross‑country athletes, illustrating a campus‑wide commitment to athletic excellence. Fans in attendance expressed appreciation for the athletes’ perseverance, noting that the collective support fuels their drive to succeed on the field.
