Inaugural Upshot League Women's Basketball Championship Set for August 29
Jacksonville will welcome the first ever Upshot League women's basketball championship on August 29, bringing together the league's top two teams for a highly anticipated final at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
The championship game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, in front of a crowd expected to celebrate the rapid growth of women's professional basketball in the United States.
The weekend will be packed with community‑focused activities, including a coaches' clinic on August 28 and a youth clinic the following morning, both designed to inspire the next generation of players.
A ticketed luncheon featuring Hall of Fame inductees Cheryl Miller and Tamika Catchings will highlight the festivities, offering fans a chance to hear from two of the sport's most iconic figures.
MVP Trophy Honors a Trailblazer
The league will present its Most Valuable Player award in honor of Ann Meyers Drysdale, an Olympian and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame honoree, underscoring the tournament's connection to basketball history.
Upshot League officials note that 70 percent of games this season have been decided by ten points or fewer, a statistic that illustrates the competitive balance and excitement across the four‑team league.
Looking ahead, the league plans to expand to Nashville, Tennessee, and Baltimore in 2027, with discussions already underway about potential growth beyond six franchises and adjustments to future playoff structures.
Fans can secure tickets for the luncheon in early August, while a fan fest and an entrepreneurship event are slated for 5 p.m. on August 29, rounding out a full day of celebration.
