Jacob Lockett Chooses Old Dominion Over Kansas State Legacy

The standout wide receiver rejects family tradition to commit to Old Dominion, citing personal fit and scholarship opportunities.

Jacob Lockett, a 6‑foot, 170‑pound wide receiver from Blue Valley High School, announced his commitment to Old Dominion University, opting out of the path that has defined his family's connection to football.

Breaking the Family Cycle

The decision marks a departure from a lineage that includes his father, uncle and two brothers, all of whom wore the Kansas State Wildcats jersey.

Despite receiving a scholarship offer from K‑State coach Collin Klein earlier this month, Lockett chose the Monarchs, a choice influenced by his twin brother Jordan's own scholarship and the program's growing appeal.

At Blue Valley, Lockett logged 37 receptions for 609 yards and eight touchdowns last season, numbers that had attracted interest from a range of programs including Army, Pittsburg State and several junior colleges.

A New Chapter

Ricky Rahne, now the head coach at Old Dominion, previously served as an assistant under Klein at Kansas State, a connection that helped shape the recruiting environment that ultimately swayed the Lockett twins.

The Lockett family's football pedigree extends to the professional realm, where Tyler Lockett stands as one of Kansas State's most celebrated receivers, amassing 249 catches for 3,710 yards and 29 touchdowns, while Kevin and Aaron contributed thousands of receiving yards during their collegiate careers.

Jordan Lockett, Jacob's twin, has also pledged to Old Dominion, underscoring the program's ability to attract multiple members of the same household, while the broader recruiting landscape continues to evolve.
