Jacob Porter, a midfielder whose name has become synonymous with Warren Central soccer, has once again been crowned the Vicksburg Post’s boys soccer Player of the Year for the 2026 season, marking his second consecutive win.
Award Legacy and Historical Context
Porter joins an elite group of back‑to‑back recipients, the first since Braylen Greer captured the honor in 2017 and 2018, underscoring a rare continuity in the region’s soccer excellence.
During the 2026 campaign he netted 27 goals, raising his career tally to 60 goals and 18 assists across three varsity seasons, and he found the net in 13 of the Vikings’ 24 matches, scoring multiple goals on seven occasions.
Coach’s Praise and Team Impact
Warren Central head coach Greg Head lauded Porter’s consistency, positioning and versatility, noting that the player’s defensive contributions with the Mississippi Rush select side further illustrate his well‑rounded skill set.
The Vikings finished the season with a 18‑5‑1 record, extending a three‑year stretch that saw the program compile a 52‑13‑4 overall mark, a testament to the culture of winning cultivated in the school.
Looking ahead, Porter says he aims to surpass 30 goals next year while increasing his assist numbers, a goal that aligns with his broader ambition of leading Warren Central to a state championship and potentially securing a third straight Player of the Year award.
