A Legacy of Leadership
Jaelynn Murray Burrus has been appointed director of women's basketball at the University of North Carolina, a move that underscores the program’s commitment to continuity and leadership development.
Murray Burrus spent five seasons at UNC, first as a standout player from 2017 to 2022, then as assistant director of recruiting operations for three years. She overcame a knee injury that sidelined her during the 2019‑20 season, yet still managed to appear in 81 games, captain the team in her senior year and help guide the Tar Heels to a Sweet 16 appearance. Off the court she earned a bachelor's degree in information science and a master's in educational innovation, technology and entrepreneurship, and earned a place on the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Coach Courtney Banghart praised her leadership, energy and work ethic, noting that her blend of playing experience and administrative acumen positions her to shape the program’s future strategy and culture.
The new role also brings familiar faces into the fold; former teammate Liz Roberts now serves as the program’s general manager, creating a leadership team rooted in shared history and a common vision for sustained excellence.
