Jake Agnos Returns to East Carolina as Pitching Coach

Former Pirate All‑American brings professional experience and cutting‑edge development to the program

East Carolina University has named Jake Agnos its new pitching coach, tapping a former standout player to lead the next chapter of the program’s pitching development.

A Proven Talent Returns to the Fold

Agnos arrives after a distinguished collegiate career in which he earned three All‑America honors, set single‑season strikeout records for both ECU and the American Athletic Conference, and was crowned the 2019 conference pitcher of the year.

During his senior season he helped guide the Pirates to an NCAA Regional appearance, and after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft he spent five years within the New York Yankees organization, where he refined his craft using advanced analytics.

His stint with the Yankees included stints in the bullpen and in‑game pitching decisions, as well as work with TrackMan and Edgertronic cameras to fine‑tune mechanics and optimize pitch movement.

Before that, Agnos served as a graduate manager for ECU’s baseball staff, designing individualized throwing programs that produced more than twenty developed pitchers and contributed to multiple Conference Pitchers of the Week.

The program’s recent championship season now adds a layer of continuity, as Agnos will work alongside the existing staff to prepare arms for the 2027 campaign and maintain the team’s competitive edge.

Athletic leaders say his blend of on‑field experience, professional exposure, and modern player‑development philosophy positions the Pirates to sustain their upward trajectory in the highly competitive collegiate landscape.
