Jake Souders, an All‑SoCon first‑team outfielder from Samford, has officially pledged to Mississippi State, adding a proven bat and speed to the Bulldogs' roster. The sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, made the announcement on X, where he shared a photo of himself in a maroon Mississippi State jersey and expressed enthusiasm for his new chapter in Starkville.
A Productive Season in the SoCon
During his most recent campaign, Souders batted .356 while hitting 11 home runs and driving in 46 runs. He also contributed 48 runs scored and stole 17 bases, appearing in 35 games in right field and 21 in center field. His all‑around production helped Samford secure a strong conference finish.
Souders' commitment marks the second transfer‑portal addition for Mississippi State since the portal opened on June 1. The first was Brady Christman, a Georgia Southern outfielder/catcher who announced his pledge to the Bulldogs on June 6. Both players are expected to bolster the team's depth as the program prepares for the upcoming season.
Portal Activity Shakes Up the Roster
The transfer portal has also seen two current Mississippi State players enter the market: pitcher Patrick Spencer Jr. and catcher Andrew Raymond. Their departures come as five of the Bulldogs' starting position players reach the end of their eligibility, a group that does not include ace prospect Ace Reese, who remains eligible for the 2026 MLB Draft.
Souders will be eligible for the MLB draft only in 2027, giving him several years of college eligibility ahead. His arrival adds depth to an outfield that has seen both departures and new talent, and his experience in high‑stakes conference play is expected to translate well to the SEC.
