Jalen Brown, a four‑star guard from Wauwatosa West, announced his commitment to the University of Wisconsin basketball program on Tuesday, choosing the Badgers over a crowded field of suitors.
A Home‑State Decision
The decision reflects a long‑term dream of playing close to home, a factor that Brown said was central to his choice, and the Badgers' up‑tempo, ball‑screen heavy style that matches his skill set.
Wisconsin assistant coach Sharif Chambliss played a pivotal role, having built a relationship with Brown over several years that culminated in frequent visits to Tosa West for workouts and games.
Christopher Newbauer, Brown's high school coach, described the recruit as a "complete package" with professional potential, highlighting his ability to run the break, handle ball screens, and read the floor.
Newbauer also drew a comparison between Brown and former Badger guard John Blackwell, noting similarities in basketball IQ and defensive versatility.
The commitment marks UW's first pledge in the 2027 class, a recruiting cycle that is heavily populated by in‑state talent. While Brown will not arrive in Madison until the fall of 2027, Newbauer said he hopes the youngster will add muscle and become more vocal before stepping onto the campus.
Brown's shooting efficiency jumped from roughly 30 percent as a sophomore to 38.5 percent as a junior, underscoring his development and readiness for the rigors of Big Ten competition.
