A New Era for the Panthers
Philadelphia’s 6‑foot‑5 guard Jalil Bethea is set to join the University of Pittsburgh’s men’s basketball program for the 2026‑27 season, adding a potent mix of size, skill and experience to the Panthers’ backcourt.
The transfer comes after a two‑year stint at Alabama, where Bethea contributed 3.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and an 80.7 percent free‑throw rate during the 2025‑26 campaign that saw the Crimson Tide advance to the Sweet 16.
A former consensus five‑star recruit and 2024 McDonald’s All‑American, Bethea arrives in Pittsburgh with two years of eligibility remaining, giving the program a seasoned option for future tournaments.
From Alabama to Pittsburgh
Bethea began his collegiate career at Miami (Fla.) before transferring to Alabama, where he posted a career‑high 21 points against UTSA on Dec. 7, 2025, and helped the team reach the Sweet 16.
He missed the month of November in 2025‑26 while recovering from offseason foot surgery, but returned to post strong performances, including a 7.1 points per game average at Miami the previous season.
A Versatile Backcourt Presence
Standing at 6‑foot‑5, Bethea blends perimeter shooting with the ability to finish at the rim, a combination that should give Pitt additional flexibility in offensive schemes.
His high school accolades also include a victory in the Powerade JamFest Dunk Contest at the Final Four, underscoring a reputation for spectacular play that complements his on‑court production.
Fans can look forward to seeing the former McDonald’s Slam Dunk champion bring a high‑energy style to the Palumbo Center, where his athleticism is expected to energize both the team and the crowd.
