Community Comes Together for Youth Sports Initiative
Jalyn Armour-Davis, a former defensive back at St. Paul's, organized a free football and STEAM camp at Bishop State University, inviting boys and girls from across the region to participate in drills, academic workshops and team‑building activities.
The event was coordinated by the Palmer Williams Group, a local organization dedicated to youth development through sport and education, which handled logistics, scheduling and outreach to families in Mobile and neighboring Robertsdale.
Beyond the camp’s instructional goals, the broader community mobilized to support the 8u Mobile All Stars, a youth baseball team preparing for a state tournament, by providing new equipment and uniforms sourced from regional businesses and parent volunteers.
The City of Mobile contributed a donation of uniforms, underscoring municipal commitment to grassroots athletics and reinforcing the notion that public resources can amplify private initiatives.
Participants left the camp not only with improved athletic skills but also with exposure to STEAM concepts, illustrating how integrated programs can foster holistic growth among young athletes.
