Immersive Basketball Filming in Japan
Filmmakers in Japan partnered with Blackmagic Design to capture a professional basketball game using the company’s Ursa Cine Immersive cameras, aiming to deliver a multi‑angle experience for Apple Vision Pro users.
The effort, led by Amplium and Concent, Inc., focused on the Kawasaki Brave Thunders home game, employing a pair of the high‑mobility cameras to record player entrances, bench action and post‑game moments from strategic positions around the arena.
After the shoot, the footage was refined in DaVinci Resolve Studio, where editors adjusted white balance, contrast and noise reduction to preserve the natural atmosphere of the contest while meeting the technical demands of Apple Immersive Video.
Hibiki Sato, CEO of Amplium, explained that the Brave Thunders recognized the promise of Apple’s immersive platform, while Creative Director Toru Watanabe emphasized letting viewers feel the highlights as if they were courtside.
Editor Shota Iwami from Concent expressed confidence that audiences will enjoy a vivid, at‑home viewing experience, noting that the compact Ursa Cine Immersive units required minimal setup and quick battery changes between quarters.
Beyond this project, Apple Immersive Video has already been used for MLS highlights and live NBA broadcasts, suggesting a growing role for multi‑perspective sports production in the immersive media landscape.
