Rodeo Roots Meet Mountain Retreats
Jared Allen, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who now spends part of his year in South Lake Tahoe, was recently seen at the Reno Rodeo, where he cheered on his friend Trey Yates, a four‑time National Finals Rodeo qualifying team roper.
The sighting comes despite Allen’s admission that he has never attended a night performance at the rodeo, preferring the quieter slack events where he can watch the action up close.
Growing up on a horse ranch in Morgan Hill, California, Allen developed a lifelong passion for calf roping, a skill that later inspired his signature “calf‑roping” sack celebration in the NFL, a move that became a hallmark of his 12‑year career.
After a stellar college stint at Idaho State, Allen entered the NFL and eventually earned a spot in Super Bowl 50, a testament to his durability and flair on the field.
Beyond football, Allen is an avid curler and was instrumental in bringing the first Grand Slam of Curling event to the United States, blending his love of precision sports with his Californian roots.
For the past decade, Allen has called Lake Tahoe a home away from home, describing the region as beautiful, diverse, and peaceful — a perfect backdrop for family outings and a welcome escape from the limelight.
He often shares these tranquil moments with his children, emphasizing the area’s chill vibe and the sense of community that keeps him returning.
