A new era for La Salle athletics
La Salle University announced that Jarett Gerald will assume the role of athletics director, effective immediately. The decision follows a national search that highlighted Gerald's blend of playing experience, coaching acumen and proven fundraising success.
Gerald’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the program, as the university seeks to elevate its competitive standing across multiple sports. University officials cited his track record of building donor relationships and his deep roots in collegiate athletics as key factors in the selection.
A career forged in competition and giving
Before arriving at La Salle, Gerald served on the senior leadership team of the Mizzou Athletics Fund at the University of Missouri, where he helped secure major gifts that bolstered scholarships and facility upgrades. He previously spent four years at Duke University, focusing on development initiatives for the basketball program.
His coaching journey began at the University of South Carolina, where he was a post‑graduate intern with the NCAA and later joined the men’s basketball staff under head coach Frank Martin. Over seven seasons he contributed to a culture that culminated in the 2016‑17 Final Four run, a milestone that cemented his reputation as a program‑builder.
Beyond basketball, Gerald was a jumper on USC’s track and field team, competing in the long jump and triple jump. He earned multiple SEC Honor Roll recognitions and captured the Iron Gamecock award twice, underscoring his versatility as both a student‑athlete and a leader.
Looking ahead
In his new role, Gerald will oversee all athletic operations at La Salle, from budgeting and compliance to student‑athlete development. He expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with the university community and emphasized the importance of aligning athletic success with academic excellence.
