A fresh contract for a rising star
The Maine Mariners announced this week that they have re‑signed defenseman Jaxon Bellamy, cementing a key piece of their blue line for the upcoming 2025‑26 campaign.
Bellamy’s rookie season was nothing short of impressive; in 71 of 72 games he logged a team‑leading +23 rating while chipping in 19 points — four goals and 15 assists — that helped the club secure a playoff berth.
The 25‑year‑old blueliner, a native of Hampton, New Brunswick, brings a blend of size, poise and offensive upside that coaches say will be vital as the Mariners aim to deepen their defensive core.
Bellamy’s hockey roots run deep; he spent three seasons at Saint Mary’s University of USports before honing his craft in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League, where he suited up for Sherbrooke Phoenix, Acadie‑Bathurst Titan and Moncton Wildcats.
Off the ice, the defenseman’s journey reflects a steady climb from junior ranks through college play to the professional arena, a trajectory that mirrors the Mariners’ own rise as an ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins and AHL’s Providence Bruins.
