A career built on consistency and championships
Jay Lawson announced his retirement after three and a half decades leading the Bentley men's basketball team, concluding a tenure that produced a program‑record 664 victories and nine Northeast‑10 regular‑season titles.
Under his guidance the Falcons captured two Final Four berths and advanced to the Sweet 16 on eight separate occasions, while the 2006‑07 and 2007‑08 squads set a Division II record with 55 straight regular‑season wins.
Accolades and institutional impact
Lawson’s teams were ranked No. 1 nationally on fourteen occasions and earned him six Northeast‑10 Coach of the Year awards along with five NABC Division 2 Regional Coach honors. Athletic director Vaughn Williams praised Lawson for his extraordinary service, leadership and the relationships he forged across campus.
Beyond the win column, Lawson helped Bentley transition from a regional power to a nationally recognized program, fostering a culture that emphasized both athletic competitiveness and academic integrity.
