Former Villanova head coach Jay Wright has been selected for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, a recognition that reflects his profound influence on college basketball and his enduring legacy within the game.
Induction Set for Kansas City
The ceremony will take place in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 22, where Wright will be celebrated alongside a distinguished group of coaches and players who have each left an indelible mark on the sport.
Among the inductees are longtime mentors Tubby Smith and Ted Owens, as well as former NBA standouts Danny Ainge, Glen Rice and the late Walt Hazzard, each of whom contributed significantly to basketball’s rich history.
Wright’s election marks the 20th class of the Hall, which was founded in 2006, and follows his earlier induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021, underscoring a career that has been repeatedly honored by the basketball community.
Over his 21‑year tenure at Villanova, Wright guided the Wildcats to two national championships and four Final Four appearances, while capturing 13 Big East regular‑season and tournament titles, cementing his reputation as a builder of championship programs.
His coaching journey began at Hofstra in 1994, where he refined his approach before returning to Pennsylvania to create a dynasty that resonated across the Big East and national stages, ultimately retiring in 2022 after a storied career.
Elected by the Blue Ribbon Selection Committee and administered by the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation, Wright’s selection highlights the deep respect he commands among peers, scholars, and the broader basketball community.
