The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame will welcome former Villanova head coach Jay Wright into its ranks next year, as part of a ceremony set for October 22 in Kansas City, Missouri. The event will bring together a distinguished group of coaches and players who have each left an indelible mark on the sport.
A Hall of Fame Legacy
Wright spent 21 seasons at the helm of Villanova, guiding the Wildcats to two national championships and 13 Big East titles. His tenure was marked by a blend of disciplined play, player development and a commitment to academic excellence that set a standard for programs across the country.
Class of 2026
He will be joined in the 20th class of the Hall of Fame by coaches Tubby Smith and Ted Owens, as well as former players Danny Ainge, Glen Rice and Walt Hazzard. Each inductee represents a different era of the game, underscoring the Hall's role in preserving the sport's rich history.
National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame CEO Kevin Henderson praised the Class of 2026 for their collective impact, noting that their contributions extend beyond the hardwood and into the broader culture of college basketball.
Wright's coaching journey began in 1994 at Hofstra, where he honed his craft before returning to his alma mater as an assistant. He later served as an assistant at Drexel and Villanova before taking the reins at Villanova, where he built a perennial contender that consistently competed at the highest level.
The ceremony will be administered by the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation, the organization responsible for overseeing the selection process through its Blue Ribbon Selection Committee.
