The University of Texas announced the addition of Jayda Clark, a 21‑year‑old Australian guard, to its women's basketball program for the 2026‑27 campaign. Clark's signing marks a strategic move to shore up a backcourt that has lost key contributors through graduation and transfers.
Coach Vic Schaefer praised the recruit, emphasizing Clark's professional background and her ability to score at all three levels. "She brings a level of experience that will complement our young talent and elevate our competitiveness in practice and games," Schaefer said.
A Boost for the Backcourt
Clark arrives after two seasons in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL), where she posted a career‑high 36 points in her most recent game and demonstrated versatility as a scorer, playmaker and defender.
Her arrival comes at a time when the Longhorns are thin at guard, having seen Rori Harmon, Jordan Lee and Aaliyah Crump exit the program. The team will rely on returning juniors such as Bryanna Preston, as well as freshmen Addison Bjorn, Amalia Holguin and Lizzy Spaight, to share the load.
Clark will join Oklahoma transfer Zya Vann and a diverse roster that includes players from Canada, Ireland, Sweden and Luxembourg, adding both depth and an international flair to the squad.
The coaching staff believes the blend of domestic talent and global perspective will raise the level of competition in practice, fostering a more dynamic environment as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
Expressing her excitement, Clark highlighted the program's championship pedigree and the opportunity to work under Schaefer. "I’m thrilled to be part of a team that consistently fights for titles, and I can’t wait to contribute to that tradition," she said.
