A Season Remembered
The Jefferson Bulldogs boys basketball team captured the 2025‑2026 Boys Team of the Year honor from the Marshall News Messenger, a tribute to a campaign defined by perseverance, community spirit and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Throughout the season the Bulldogs wore the #AveryStrong banner, a visible reminder of teammate Avery Lawson whose legacy continued to inspire every practice and game.
The squad opened the year with an eight‑game winning streak, blasting through early opponents with scores such as 87‑11 over Ore City, 85‑26 and 84‑21 victories against Queen City, 72‑20 over Atlanta and 65‑39 against Pleasant Grove.
Their dominance carried into district play, where they finished unbeaten and posted a hard‑fought 47‑35 win over Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, the toughest test within the league.
After a solitary setback against Martin’s Mill, the Bulldogs responded with another eight‑game winning streak, defeating Timpson, Hawkins, Gary, New Boston, Grace Community, Shelbyville and San Augustine.
The postseason saw them crush Atlanta 75‑26 in the bi‑district round and Grand Saline 76‑49 in the area round, but their run ended when they met Dallas Madison, the eventual state champions, in a regional semifinal.
The team concluded the season with a 30‑4 overall record, an immaculate district slate and a regional semifinals appearance, leaving a legacy that will be remembered as much for its on‑court achievements as for the unity it forged around Lawson’s memory.
