Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors Open Tournament with Dominant 7-1 Win

Drew Heislen's pitching and a seventh-inning rally power the Seniors to a strong start

The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors opened their campaign in the Bill Dey Memorial Tournament with a convincing 7‑1 victory over Fike Post 499 on Tuesday.

Right‑hander Drew Heislen delivered a complete game, fanning ten batters while surrendering just one run, and he also added a pair of hits at the plate.

The breakthrough came in the seventh inning when the Seniors exploded for five runs, a rally sparked by hits from Dodge McDaniel, Kason Lance, Kris Haley and Bryce Wieberg that turned a modest lead into a decisive margin.

Opposing starter Jaxson Jones labored through 6 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits, but the Post 5 offense proved too much to contain.

With pool play still unfinished, Post 5 is scheduled to play two more games later today at Liberty Park, aiming to finish the round robin on a high note.
