The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is rolling out two fresh summer initiatives aimed at getting kids active and having fun on the field.
Youth Soccer Camp sets the stage
Starting on July 28 and running through July 31, the Youth Soccer Camp offers two age‑specific sessions, one for children aged five to seven and another for those eight to ten. Under the guidance of William Johnson, the U15 girls travel coach, participants will practice kicking, passing, throw‑ins, shooting and dribbling in a supportive environment.
The camp’s modest fee structure makes it accessible: community‑center members pay $15, while non‑members are asked to contribute $20. This pricing reflects the department’s commitment to inclusive recreation.
Kiddie Sports Camp brings variety
Next week, the Kiddie Sports Camp opens its doors to children three to five years old, delivering a rotating lineup of soccer, basketball, dodgeball and gaga ball. Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m., giving families a convenient mid‑week option.
Costs are equally straightforward: members spend $5 per session, while non‑members are charged $10. The program’s compact format ensures youngsters receive a taste of multiple sports without overwhelming them.
Parents can register online or simply call the community center to secure a spot. With limited spaces, early sign‑up is encouraged to guarantee participation in these popular offerings.
Beyond the games, the department hopes these camps will foster teamwork, confidence and a love of movement that extends into the school year. By partnering with local volunteers and coaches, the initiative underscores Jefferson’s dedication to a vibrant, healthy community.
