Jessica Patera, the team’s manager, sparked the initiative after noticing how few local options existed for her daughter and other aspiring female players. Determined to change that, she partnered with Jenison Public Schools and set the foundation for a program that would soon become a cornerstone of West Michigan girls’ sports.
A No‑Cut, All‑Levels Roster
The Wildcats adopted a bold no‑cut policy, welcoming players of every skill level and experience. This approach not only broadened participation but also sent a clear message that hockey is for everyone, regardless of prior exposure to the ice.

The response has been overwhelming. More girls signed up than anyone anticipated, and the roster now spans a diverse mix of newcomers and seasoned players.
