Jenna Hamel, a sophomore who guards the net for Stonehill College, has been recognized as the NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for her performances in the opening two games of the 2026 season.
Historic Beginnings
Her impact was immediate, posting a 0.50 goals-against average and an .833 save percentage while also securing a shutout against Bryant and making two crucial saves in the season opener versus New Hampshire. The accolade marks her first collegiate weekly honor and earned her a spot on the NEC Prime Performer list.
Stonehill’s start to the campaign is historic, as the team opened with two consecutive draws — a feat not achieved in at least three decades. The early results have set a promising tone for the program as it looks to build momentum.
The next test will come on Wednesday evening when the team travels to Worcester, Massachusetts, to face Holy Cross at 7 p.m., a non-conference match that promises another chance for Hamel to showcase her skills.
