A Kentucky Homecoming
Jerone Morton, a Winchester native who grew up watching the Wildcats dominate the NCAA, has officially joined the University of Kentucky roster for the 2026‑27 campaign. After stints at Morehead State and Washington State, the guard returns to his home state with a clear mission: to anchor the team’s defense and contribute wherever the ball lands.
Morton’s high school days at George Rogers Clark High School were marked by a memorable run to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Sweet 16 title in 2022. Under the tutelage of coach Josh Cook, he was named tournament MVP and learned the fundamentals of winning that still guide him today.
While he acknowledges subtle improvements in his shooting mechanics, Morton says his identity remains that of a lock‑down defender. “I’m here to make life difficult for the opposition’s best scorers,” he explained, emphasizing that his defensive skill set will be his primary contribution on the court.
The prospect of wearing the blue and white has left Morton feeling both humbled and eager. He credits his high school mentor for shaping his work ethic and expresses gratitude for the opportunity to play for the Wildcats, a dream he has nurtured since childhood.
Off the court, Morton cites De'Aaron Fox, Devin Booker and Malik Monk as the players he idolized growing up, hoping to one day emulate their impact in Lexington.
