Owner Dawn Sherman, who has been vocal about the team’s financial constraints, said the loss underscored both the challenges and the potential of women’s tackle football in the region.
Sherman estimates the squad spends roughly $35,000 per away game on flights, hotels, meals, trainers and other travel costs, a burden that falls on players who remain unpaid and balance football with full‑time jobs.
Despite the financial strain, fans gathered at the stadium, recognizing that attendance directly influences the franchise’s future and the broader push to elevate women’s sports.
Baye Adofo‑Wilson, a key figure in the stadium’s management, expressed hope that the Wave will secure another year at Hinchliffe, citing the growing fan base in Paterson.
