Jess English, a junior defender for the Worcester Polytechnic Institute women's soccer team, has been selected to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Women's Scholar All‑East Region Third Team. The recognition places her among just fifteen student‑athletes honored across the region and marks her as one of only four defenders named to the third team.
English carries a 3.58 cumulative GPA while pursuing a mechanical engineering degree, a combination that has earned her College Sports Communicators Academic All‑District honors and two‑time Academic All‑NEWMAC selections. She is also a three‑time All‑NEWMAC choice, collecting back‑to‑back First Team accolades in 2024 and 2025.
A Scholar‑Athlete Who Leads On and Off the Field
During the 2025 campaign she anchored a defensive line that posted ten shutouts, helping the Engineers finish the season with an 11‑7‑3 record and a berth in the NEWMAC Tournament semifinals. English started every match, logging 1,890 minutes and adding an assist from the back.
Beyond athletics and academics, English serves as Life Enrichment Chair for Phi Sigma Sigma and is an active member of the Society of Women Engineers, the WPI Outing Club, and Team IMPACT. Her community work includes tutoring at Elm Park School, coaching clinics with Doca Futebol Academy, and supporting the Team IMPACT program for youth facing medical challenges.
Her leadership extends to campus life, where she mentors peers and contributes to initiatives that promote engineering education and women's empowerment. English's blend of scholarly rigor, athletic performance, and civic engagement exemplifies the next generation of engineer‑athletes.
