A Legacy of Leadership
The ECHL’s Indianapolis‑based franchise announced Tuesday that Jesse Messier has been appointed head coach, marking the fifth time the veteran has held the position within the organization.
Messier arrives with more than two decades of experience that spans every level of the sport, from his days as a player in the ECHL and OHL to extensive coaching roles at the collegiate and junior ranks.
His coaching résumé includes stints as an assistant with the Saginaw Spirit and Bloomington Bison, a head coaching tenure at York University where he guided the team to a 2017 Queen’s Cup title, and a remarkable run with the Kam River Fighting Walleye that produced a 39‑9‑1 record and a league‑final appearance.
Fuel owner Jim Hallett praised the hire, noting Messier’s blend of playing experience, developmental focus, and championship pedigree as exactly what the club needs to push toward a Kelly Cup run.
Under Messier’s leadership the team hopes to translate his player‑development philosophy into on‑ice success, aiming to contend for the league’s ultimate prize in the upcoming season.
