A New Era for Sentinels Basketball
Jesse Roberts has been appointed head coach of the Minot North girls basketball team, taking over from Justin Lauf who resigned in late May. The announcement marks a transition that the school hopes will carry forward the momentum built over recent seasons.
Roberts arrives with six years of service as an assistant at Minot High, where he contributed to two state championships as both a player and a coach. His deep familiarity with the program’s culture and his proven ability to develop talent were cited as key reasons for his promotion.
A native of Minot, Roberts played collegiately at Bismarck State before completing his career at Minot State, experiences that gave him a broad perspective on the regional basketball landscape. That background informs his coaching style, which emphasizes disciplined defense and a fast‑paced offense.
He will become only the second coach in the history of Minot North’s girls basketball program, and the upcoming season will be the third year that the Sentinels have fielded a varsity team. The appointment underscores the school’s commitment to growing a competitive, home‑grown talent pipeline.
School officials say Roberts’ intimate knowledge of the community, combined with his state‑championship pedigree, positions him to continue building on the program’s recent progress. Athletic Director Jason Schwarz expressed confidence that Roberts will guide the team toward sustained success.
