Jessica Loyd, a Lake Highlands High School alum, has been named the new head coach of the school’s girls soccer program, taking the helm of the Wildcats as they look to build on recent successes.
A new era for Wildcat soccer
Loyd’s journey from a standout athlete in both soccer and basketball to a scholar with degrees from Baylor University has equipped her with a unique blend of playing experience and academic insight.
After completing her education — earning a bachelor’s in physical education teaching and coaching and a master’s in sport and fitness administration — she honed her coaching skills in Waco and Plano before returning to her hometown as an assistant coach last year.
She will replace Katie Mellus, who has accepted a head coaching position at Ursuline Academy, marking a transition that has drawn attention from players, parents, and local sports observers.
Community members say Loyd’s deep roots in the area and her proven leadership at the youth level bring a fresh yet familiar energy to the program, and they are eager to see how her vision will shape the Wildcats’ future.
