Preseason Outlook
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) has unveiled its 2026 Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Poll, positioning Jamestown University's Jimmies at 14th overall. The placement puts the team ahead of rivals Minnesota Crookston and Minnesota State Moorhead, setting a modest but hopeful tone for the upcoming campaign.
Jamestown’s 2025 season ended with a 2‑13‑1 overall record and a 2‑11‑1 mark within the NSIC, a showing that left the coaching staff eager for improvement. Head coach Nick Becker said the squad feels prepared to translate offseason work into on‑field success.
Becker highlighted the contributions of two returning standouts. Senior midfielder Vega Canada, a native of Pamplona, Spain, will anchor the attack after logging 25 points over three seasons, including three goals and 25 points in 2025 alone. Her ability to control possession and create scoring chances was singled out as a key offensive weapon.
Junior defender Kyah Gabel, who started every game in 2025, brings a reputation for defensive solidity. Coach Becker noted her growth entering her third year and expects her to be a cornerstone at the back.
The Jimmies will test their readiness with two home scrimmages in late August. They host Concordia (Minn.) on August 21 and Dakota Wesleyan on August 22 before opening their official schedule on August 30 at Roosevelt University in the Chicago area.
With a blend of experienced leadership and fresh talent, the team aims to climb higher than the 14th spot when the season unfolds. The early non‑conference matches are seen as opportunities to fine‑tune strategies and build momentum heading into conference play.
