Lehman College announced this week that Joe Curto has been named the new Head Baseball Coach for the Lightning program, marking the start of a fresh chapter for the team.
A Strategic Appointment
Curto arrives with a résumé that spans NCAA Division III, NJCAA, high school, club and summer collegiate competition, giving him a rare breadth of experience for his first collegiate head position.
Director of Athletics Ryan McCarthy praised the hire, noting that Curto’s proven ability to develop players both on the diamond and in the classroom aligns perfectly with the college’s mission.
Building a Culture of Excellence
In his statement, Curto said he wants to instill a culture of accountability and competitive excellence, emphasizing that each student‑athlete should thrive on the field, in the classroom, and in life.
He highlighted his own academic journey — from playing at Kingsborough Community College and The City College of New York to earning graduate degrees from Queens College and SUNY Albany — as a model for the athletes he hopes to mentor.
