Joe Franco, a 2002 graduate of Coral Springs High School, has been named the new head baseball coach, completing a full‑circle journey that began on the same diamond where he once swung for the Colts. His appointment was announced by Principal Dwayne Dixon, who cited Franco’s deep roots and proven leadership as the program seeks a fresh direction.
A Coaching Legacy
Franco arrives with a résumé that includes nine seasons at Coral Glades High School, where his teams captured two district titles and earned Broward County Coach of the Year honors in 2012 and 2015. Over a career that spans stints at Palm Beach Community College and Nova Southeastern University, he has amassed 251 victories and mentored 48 players who continued their careers at the collegiate level.
Most recently, Franco served as head coach at Boca Raton Community High School, guiding the Bobcats to a 14‑9 season and demonstrating his ability to turn programs around quickly. His experience includes navigating the challenges of a limited varsity roster and the absence of a junior varsity pipeline over the past four years, a reality he embraces as an opportunity to build from the ground up.
Rebuilding the Colts
The Colts are entering a major rebuilding phase after a strong five‑year run under former coach John Brown. With fewer than five varsity players returning and no junior varsity team in recent seasons, Franco and his staff are focusing on fundamentals, player development, and fostering a culture that values both classroom achievement and on‑field excellence.
Franco expressed gratitude to Principal Dixon for the trust placed in him, stating that his vision extends beyond wins and losses. He aims to create a program that excels academically, competes competitively, and serves as a positive force throughout the Coral Springs community.
Looking Ahead
The excitement is palpable as former standout Angelo Smith, a product of Franco’s coaching at Coral Glades, was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2025 MLB Draft. That draft success underscores Franco’s ability to produce talent ready for the next level, a track record he hopes to replicate with the current crop of Colts.
