University of North Florida announced this week that head coach Joe Mercadante has signed a multi-year contract extension that runs through the 2030 season, cementing his leadership of the Osprey baseball program for the next half-decade.
When Mercadante arrived, the team posted a modest 21-30-1 record, but his steady emphasis on accountability and teamwork quickly turned the tide, culminating in a 31-24 finish in his third year and a .733 win percentage in ASUN Conference play — the best the program has posted since 2015.
The 2026 campaign saw the Ospreys capture the ASUN Graphite Division title, earn a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, and secure a top-50 recruiting class, ranked No. 46 nationally in December 2025.
