John Adams, a former state championship‑winning coach, has been appointed head football coach at Bradwell Institute, the school announced this week. The hiring comes as the program seeks to rebound from years of underperformance and aims to restore the tradition of excellence that once defined the Tigers.
Adams arrives with a résumé that includes back‑to‑back state titles at Cedar Grove in 2021 and 2023, a stint as a player under legendary coach Buck Godfrey at Southwest DeKalb, and a college career at the University of South Carolina where he also played baseball. His coaching journey has also taken him through Georgia State, where he worked alongside mentors such as Dell McGee and Hugh Jackson.
A New Era for Bradwell Football
Known for a calm, no‑nonsense demeanor, Adams emphasizes discipline and fundamentals, a philosophy he says was shaped by his longtime mentor, Buck Godfrey, whom he regards as a father figure. “I learned that leadership is about consistency and respect,” Adams explained in a recent interview.
Senior wide receiver Jacobi Pasley, who has already seen a surge in college interest, credited Adams for the new momentum. “Coach Adams has opened doors for us,” Pasley said, noting that the coach’s reputation has attracted additional scholarship offers.
The ultimate goal, according to Adams, is to construct a competitive program that can contend for playoff berths this season. “We’re building something sustainable,” he said, pointing to the school’s rich history and the community’s passion for the sport.
