John Rizzo, a standout pitcher from Stony Brook University, has taken the next step in his baseball career by signing a professional contract with the Sussex County Miners of the Frontier League. The agreement was first reported on August 24, 2026, and marks the latest in a series of alumni moves that have bolstered the league’s connection to the Seawolves program.
A Milestone for the Seawolves
Rizzo arrives after a season in which he served as team captain, posted a 2‑3 record, recorded five saves and posted a 5.48 ERA over 42.2 innings. He struck out 38 batters and was recognized as a CSC Academic All‑District selection, highlighting his blend of on‑field performance and scholarly achievement.
He will join fellow Stony Brook alumni Scott Gell and Micah Worley, both of whom have also secured professional contracts. Gell, an undrafted free agent, signed with the San Francisco Giants, while Worley was drafted in the sixth round by the Arizona Diamondbacks, underscoring the program’s growing pipeline to the majors.
