John Ronan has been named associate head coach of the Union College men’s hockey team for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, a move that caps a 13‑year journey with the program.
Ronan first joined Union in 2013 as a volunteer assistant during the 2013‑14 national championship campaign, a period that set the tone for his deep involvement with the program.
A Milestone Journey
He returned on a full‑time basis in 2016 and quickly became the top assistant under head coach Josh Hauge, a partnership that has defined much of the team’s recent success.
During the 2021‑22 season, Ronan served as interim head coach for the final 17 games, guiding the club through a critical stretch and showcasing his ability to lead under pressure.
His influence extends beyond the bench; he has mentored 15 all‑conference players since 2016 and helped the Garnet Chargers convert 23.3 percent of their power‑play opportunities last season.
Over the past nine seasons, Union has averaged more than 28 power‑play goals per year when Ronan has been on staff, underscoring his impact on the team’s special‑teams performance.
The program’s recent 22‑12‑3 record marked its 11th 20‑plus win season, a testament to the consistent excellence Ronan has helped foster.
Ronan’s first game in his new capacity will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, when Union opens its season on the road at Army West Point.
