Johnny Cofield, Pioneer of Big Bend High School Football Media, Dies at 67

The founder of 4Quartersonline left a lasting legacy of opportunity for young athletes across Florida's Big Bend region.

Johnny Cofield, a former player, coach and media member, passed away at the age of 67. Over a career that spanned the gridiron, the sidelines and the newsroom, he became a cornerstone of football culture in Florida's Big Bend region.

In 2009 Cofield co‑founded 4Quartersonline, a local media company dedicated to giving high school football players a platform to showcase their talents. The outlet quickly grew into a fixture at practices and games across the area, offering media days, video highlights and direct connections to college coaches.

A Community's Tribute

Colleagues and friends remember Cofield as a positive influence who leveraged his extensive network to create opportunities for others. Former Wakulla coach Scott Klees called him "an unbelievable person and coach who gave much of himself to the sport." Marc Daniels, his fellow co‑founder, recalled countless late‑night conversations at Cofield’s kitchen table that sparked the venture.

Beyond the scoreboard, Cofield’s impact resonated throughout the community. He launched a recruiting service in the early 1990s while still coaching, strengthening his credibility with high school and college coaches alike. His motivation was simple: provide exposure and pathways for young athletes who might otherwise be overlooked.

The services for Johnny Cofield are scheduled for Friday, June 12, at noon at Old West Florida Primitive Baptist Church. The ceremony will bring together players, coaches, alumni and community members to celebrate a life defined by service, mentorship and a relentless commitment to the next generation of talent.
