Johnny Wiggs, the longtime baseball coach at Santa Fe College, has announced that he will retire effective August 3 after two decades leading the program. He also spent eight years at Polk State Community College, where he built a competitive foundation before returning to Gainesville.
A career defined by championships
During his tenure at Santa Fe College he amassed 626 victories, captured nine conference championships and added two state titles. His teams reached the Junior College World Series twice, finishing as national runners‑up in 2009.
Wiggs took the opportunity to thank the players who gave their all on the field and the assistant coaches whose guidance helped shape those successes. ‘I am grateful for every moment shared with these young athletes,’ he said in a statement.
Santa Fe College officials have already begun the search for the next head coach, aiming to preserve the competitive spirit that Wiggs instilled over his long career.
