Jon Embury, a sophomore catcher for Florida Gulf Coast University, has been selected among five finalists for the prestigious Buster Posey Award, which honors the nation’s top collegiate catcher.
The other contenders include Chase Fralick of Auburn, Daniel Jackson and Vahn Lackey of Georgia, and Carson Tinney of Texas, making Embury the sole representative from outside the Power 4 conferences and the only finalist hailing from Florida.
A Milestone for FGCU Baseball
Embury’s statistical dominance in the Atlantic Sun Conference is underscored by his league‑leading 1.54 hits per game, a home‑run rate of 0.33 per game, and 60 runs batted in, figures that place him 21st, 63rd, and 65th nationally respectively.
His .655 slugging percentage ranks second in the ASUN and 85th in the country, while his 144 total bases sit 48th nationally and top the conference.
What makes his nomination especially notable is that he is the first player in Florida Gulf Coast history to reach the award’s final five, a milestone that highlights the program’s rising competitiveness.
The Buster Posey Award, named after the former Florida and San Francisco Giants star, has become a benchmark for catchers aiming for professional careers. Embury’s blend of contact hitting and power aligns perfectly with the award’s criteria, drawing attention from scouts and analysts alike.
