A New Chapter for Oles Basketball
St. Olaf College has named Jon Kreidler as its new full‑time assistant coach for the men’s basketball program, effective July 1. The hiring was confirmed by athletic director John Cheng, who highlighted Kreidler’s deep knowledge of the game and his proven recruiting network.
Kreidler arrives after three seasons at Carroll University, where he helped the Pioneers secure CCIW Tournament berths in two of those years and contributed to a culture that produced two Second Team All‑CCIW selections and multiple Academic All‑CCIW honorees.
In his most recent role as graduate assistant, Kreidler oversaw operations, player development and recruitment, coordinating everything from practice logistics to scholarship outreach. His tenure at Carroll also saw the team capture several conference accolades, underscoring his ability to blend competitive ambition with academic integrity.
A Coach with a Varied Path
Before his coaching career, Kreidler played a single season at Loras College before a series of injuries curtailed his playing ambitions. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Loras and an MBA from Carroll in 2025, equipping him with a business‑savvy perspective that he now brings to the locker room.
His professional journey also includes a stint as player development director at Chapman Basketball Academy, where he refined talent identification strategies that have since translated into successful recruiting pipelines for collegiate programs.
Based in Northfield, Minnesota, Kreidler will join a program that balances competitive spirit with a strong academic reputation. The move aligns with St. Olaf’s broader mission to cultivate student‑athletes who excel both on the court and in the classroom.
The addition of Kreidler is expected to bolster the Oles’ recruiting reach across the Midwest, particularly in Wisconsin and Iowa, regions where he previously cultivated relationships while at Carroll. His familiarity with the CCIW landscape should also provide strategic advantages as the team navigates a competitive conference schedule.
John Cheng expressed confidence that Kreidler’s blend of operational expertise and recruiting acumen will help the program achieve its next level of success, stating, “Jon brings a rare combination of basketball intelligence and organizational skill that will directly benefit our student‑athletes.”
