A Culture Shift in Gainesville
The Gators opened the 2026 season with four straight victories, including two dominant blowouts and two nail‑biting contests that tested their resolve. A narrow defeat on the road against Georgia, decided by a last‑second field goal, served as the only blemish in that early stretch.
Finishing the regular slate at 8‑4, Florida earned the No. 11 seed in the College Football Playoff. The Gators proved their mettle by winning the opening playoff game 31‑24 before bowing out in the quarterfinals 38‑24.
Standout Performances Power the Run
Quarterback Aaron Philo led the offense with 3,312 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions, while running back Jadan Baugh added 1,278 rushing yards and 14 scores. Edge rusher Jayden Woods contributed 11.5 sacks, and receiver Eric Singleton tallied 947 receiving yards, giving the Gators a balanced attack.
Sumrall’s rapid impact was recognized when he was named SEC Coach of the Year, a testament to the culture shift he has engineered at the University of Florida.
