Early Roots and Education
Jonathan Pearlman, a 1992 graduate of Goshen High School in New York, entered college with plans to study law, but a passion for soccer soon pulled him onto a different trajectory.
High School Coaching Success
He began his coaching career in Atlanta before returning to Arizona, where he took over the boys’ soccer program at Sabino High School. Over ten seasons he compiled a 150‑71‑12 record, guided the team to the 2005 Arizona 4A state championship, and earned a reputation for disciplined, hard‑working squads.
Expanding the Game
His coaching experience broadened through stints in the Olympic Development Program and the Premier Development League, and he later worked as a scout for the U.S. national team, sharpening his ability to spot emerging talent and assess tactical trends.
Founding FC Tucson
In 2017 Pearlman founded FC Tucson, a USL League Two franchise based in Tucson, and assumed multiple roles — head coach, vice president of soccer operations, and general manager. The club quickly became a hub for player development, attracting international stars such as Thierry Henry, David Beckham and David Villa for exhibitions and mentorship sessions.
Building a Competitive Platform
Under his direction the team posted an 18‑7‑3 record in its inaugural USL‑2 season, qualifying for the U.S. Open Cup in both 2017 and 2018, and establishing a competitive platform that bridges amateur and professional pathways.
Legacy and Vision
Pearlman’s philosophy blends the meticulousness of his legal training with a player‑first mindset, emphasizing education, work ethic and community involvement. He continues to mentor young athletes, aiming to leave a lasting imprint on the sport’s grassroots in the Southwest. Looking ahead, he envisions expanding FC Tucson’s influence while exploring new opportunities in soccer administration, confident that his dual love for the game and strategic thinking will keep shaping the next generation of players.
