Former Eastern Kentucky University standout Joseana Vaz has officially signed a professional contract with Quinta dos Lombos, competing in Portugal’s top‑tier Liga Betclic Feminina.
A Milestone for EKU Alumni
The deal caps a breakout 2025‑26 season in which Vaz averaged 14.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, shooting 42.2 percent from the field and earning 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Year honors.
During her lone year at EKU she helped the program capture its 11th Atlantic Sun championship, contributing to a 25‑9 record that included a twelve‑game winning streak and a historic victory over No. 1‑seed Utah in the 2026 Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
Quinta dos Lombos, based in the coastal town of Carcavelos, reached the league final last season, eliminating Sporting CP and GDESSA Barreiro before falling to Benfica in a five‑game showdown.
Coach Greg Todd, who has guided a record number of EKU players overseas, praised Vaz’s work ethic and versatility, noting that her arrival adds depth to a squad eager to contend for the championship.
The move reflects a broader trend of American collegiate talent seeking competitive opportunities abroad, and Vaz’s presence is expected to elevate the profile of the Portuguese league.
