A Fresh Face for the Nanooks
The University of Alaska Fairbanks announced the addition of forward Joseph Serpa to its men’s hockey roster, a move that underscores the program’s intent to bolster its offensive depth for the upcoming NCAA season.
Coach Erik Largen highlighted Serpa’s proven scoring touch and playmaking instincts, noting that the forward’s trajectory from the Ontario Hockey League to the collegiate ranks aligns with the team’s competitive aspirations.
Serpa spent five seasons in the OHL, compiling 118 points — 40 goals and 78 assists — across 184 games, a testament to his consistency as a two‑way forward.
His breakout 2021‑22 campaign produced 69 points in 62 games, including 15 points in 12 playoff contests, and earned him a stint at Dalhousie University where he contributed 28 points in 51 appearances.
Although he later signed with Mercyhurst University and entered the NCAA framework, Serpa did not see action during the 2022‑23 season, leaving his eligibility ready for a fresh start with Alaska.
Largen emphasized that Serpa’s hockey sense and offensive skill set should translate well to the faster pace of NCAA competition, and the coaching staff is eager to see how quickly he can adapt.
The organization views his arrival as a catalyst for increased scoring depth, hoping the forward can help the Nanooks contend more aggressively in the conference.
