Josh Berry will drive Legacy Motor Club’s No. 42 Toyota in the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series, taking over from John Hunter Nemechek, who was released from the team last week.
Berry arrives after a breakout 2025 season that featured six straight top‑10 finishes and his first Cup victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March, a win that capped a rise that began with back‑to‑back championships in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
Before his Cup breakthrough, the Tennessee native honed his craft in Late Model Stock competition for JR Motorsports and logged limited Cup appearances in 2023 while filling in for Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman, before moving to Stewart‑Haas Racing in 2024 and then Wood Brothers Racing the following year.
Legacy’s Strategic Expansion
His upcoming role marks Legacy Motor Club’s first full‑time commitment to three drivers, joining Erik Jones and Riley Herbst, a shift that signals the team’s ambition to compete consistently at the sport’s highest level.
The expansion builds on Legacy’s recent growth, having previously fielded only part‑time entries, and reflects a broader trend of teams bolstering their rosters to chase championship contention as the 2027 season approaches.
With a lineage that traces back to the historic Wood Brothers Racing organization, Legacy’s three‑car setup promises heightened competition and greater exposure for its drivers, including Berry’s anticipated push for additional wins and a stronger playoff profile.
