Josh Brown has been appointed head coach of the Fresno City College football program, succeeding the retiring Tony Caviglia. The college announced the hiring this week, highlighting Brown’s extensive JUCO background and his recent stints as co‑defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Sacramento State.
A New Era for Bulldog Football
Before joining the Bulldogs, Brown served on the staff at Gavilan College, where he helped shape a defense that emphasized discipline and speed. His coaching journey also includes a period at North Dakota State, where he contributed to a championship‑winning staff under Matt Entz.
Brown says his primary goal is to recruit the best local talent and keep those players in the Central Valley. “We want to build a team that reflects the community,” he explained, adding that he will also prioritize academic achievement alongside a championship mindset.
In addition to his recruiting focus, Brown plans to call the defense and be deeply involved in play‑calling. Summer workouts are scheduled to begin on June 22, with fall camp set to open on August 3, marking the start of a busy preparation period.
The new coach also emphasized forging strong relationships with nearby institutions, including Fresno State, Cal Poly and other regional programs, to create a collaborative network that benefits student‑athletes.
Fans and alumni have responded enthusiastically to the announcement, hoping that Brown’s blend of JUCO experience and Division I exposure will restore the Bulldogs to their former prominence.
